About Cherrydale Virginia


Once filled with cherry orchards, this close-knit neighborhood has been around since 1893. Today, this hilly, tree-lined neighborhood lies at the intersection of Five Points, and, like many Arlington neighborhoods, is near numerous parks including, Cherry Valley ParkCherrydale Park, and Oak Grove Park and features two local libraries including Cherrydale Branch Library. The Cherrydale Historic District is a national historic district and features a number of home styles including Queen Anne, Cape Cod, Colonial Revival, as well as Sears and Montgomery Ward kit houses. Also, separately listed in the National Register of Historic places is the Cherrydale Volunteer Fire House, which was built in 1919, and is considered part of the patchwork of Cherrydale’s vibrant community history.

Though somewhat of a transient neighborhood, many residents have been in the community upwards of 60 years. The community hosts a number of local events including ice cream socials, yard sales, potlucks, an art projects as well as an annual parade. Other popular places include the Cherry Valley Nature area offering a serene escape from the bustle of city life and Cherrydale-Maywood Mural featuring commissioned artwork depicting scenes from both neighborhoods. Walkable downtown Cherrydale also features numerous restaurants, cafes, and shops, and the nearby international grocer “La Union” is popular as well.

Featuring great schools, plenty of bike trails, and great proximity to Washington D.C., Cherrydale is a highly sought after place to live in North Arlington. With convenient commuting options, Cherrydale is approximately one mile away from both Metrorail’s Ballston-MU and Virginia Square stations on the Orange and Silver lines. Nearby Arlington Regional Transit (ART) buses run as well and there are bike lanes on Lee Highway.
