Warren Beatty was born on March 30th, 1937 in Richmond, Virginia. Shirley MacLaine was born in Richmond Virginia as well. Their mother was a school teacher from Nova Scotia, and his father was studying for his Ph.D. in educational psychology. When he finished school, he became a school administrator and worked part-time selling real estate. The Beatty family lived in Virginia most of their lives, including in Richmond, Norfolk, and Arlington. While living in Arlington, the Beatty family settled in the Dominion Hills neighborhood.


Beatty graduated from Thomas Jefferson Junior High School in 1945.


MacLaine grew up playing all-boys baseball and was the leading home-run hitter on the team. She earned the nickname "The Powerhouse" by being the lead home run hitter on the team. She also participated in ballet classes from the age of 3 years old and participated in cheerleading in high school as well as acting in Arlington-area theater productions.

The Bullock family later returned to Arlington proper where her father went to work for the Army Command before becoming a contractor for the Pentagon.
