Warren Beatty was born on March 30th, 1937 in Richmond, Virginia. Shirley MacLaine was born in Richmond Virginia as well. Their mother was a school teacher from Nova Scotia, and his father was studying for his Ph.D. in educational psychology. When he finished school, he became a school administrator and worked part-time selling real estate. The Beatty family lived in Virginia most of their lives, including in Richmond, Norfolk, and Arlington. While living in Arlington, the Beatty family settled in the Dominion Hills neighborhood.
Beatty graduated from Thomas Jefferson Junior High School in 1945.
MacLaine grew up playing all-boys baseball and was the leading home-run hitter on the team. She earned the nickname "The Powerhouse" by being the lead home run hitter on the team. She also participated in ballet classes from the age of 3 years old and participated in cheerleading in high school as well as acting in Arlington-area theater productions.
Sandra Bullock was born on July 26th, 1964 in the Washington DC area. The Bullock family later returned to Arlington proper where her father went to work for the Army Command before becoming a contractor for the Pentagon. Bullock went to Washington-Lee County High School where she was a cheerleader and performed in the school theater. She graduated in 1982.
Jeremy Stoppelman is a business executive who was born in Arlington, Virginia in 1977 and attended Langley High School. Stoppelman grew up in a Jewish family and attended a Reform temple. Stoppelman grew up fascinated with both computers and business. He is currently the CEO of Yelp and has worked as an engineer for name large name-brands including the Home Network and PayPal.
Katie Couric is from Arlington, Virginia where her mother was a homemaker and part-time writer and her father was a public relations executive and a news editor. The family practiced the Presbyterian faith. Couric graduated from the Arlington Public School System where she was also a cheerleader. Couric also enjoyed working at the local all-news radio station WAVA based out of Washington DC throughout her high school years.
Al Gore is from Arlington, and he is a descendant of Scots Irish immigrants who settled in the US as far back as the 17th century. During high school, Gore lived in the Fairfax Hotel in Embassy Row. It was one of the Gore family businesses at the time. Gore participated in football, basketball, track and field, and art in high school. In the summer, he was sent to Carthage, Tennessee to work on the family farm where they grew hay and tobacco and raised cattle. Gore attended Harvard before launching a career in politics.
