Arlington at a Glance

Cross the Potomac River and you’ll find yourself in Arlington. Once part of the District of Columbia, Arlington was annexed in 1847 to the state of Virginia because the Federal government couldn’t imagine needing an extra 25.7 square miles of space. Arlington today is a thriving suburban community where people both live and work. Once a sleepy outpost of Washington, Arlington is a bustling neighborhood just minutes away from the city lights of Washington, D.C.
